Shani Hussain, M.S., BCBA
Shani Hussain is a Behavior Analyst for the Parenting for Success (PFS) program in Southwest Florida. Shani obtained a B.Sc. degree with specialized honors in Psychology from York University in Ontario, as well as a M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Autism from Sage Graduate Schools in New York. His undergraduate coursework has given him a strong understanding about various aspects of mental health, including areas such as: abnormal psychology, phobias, depression, eating disorders, OCD, and anxiety disorders. In addition, he has extensive knowledge and experience with regard to the Human Sexuality Spectrum and challenges faced by individuals in the LGBTQ community.
Several years of hands-on experience working with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), along with his graduate studies have given Shani a strong theoretical understanding, as well as practical knowledge about behavior analysis and the principles that govern human behavior. Formerly employed as a Consultant for one of Canada’s leading service provider for individuals with ASD, Shani facilitated social groups which promoted prosocial behaviors to youth aged 6-18 on the Autism Spectrum. Although most of Shani’s professional experiences thus far have been focused on helping individuals with ASD, he wishes to gain experience helping other populations in need.
Due to his life experiences, he has a great deal of empathy towards, and a desire to help populations that are faced with abuse and/or discrimination (e.g. minority populations, indigenous populations, and the LGBTQ community), as well as at-risk youth, and persons with special needs. This desire was the driving force that lead Shani to leave his home in Canada, in order to pursue his current profession which focuses on helping foster parents learn strategies that will help improve the lives of the children in their care, thus enriching the family-unit as a whole.
