Behavior Analysis, Inc. is a
leading consultation firm providing language training to
persons with speech delays, autism or related disorders.
We were among the very first to utilize an integrated verbal
behavior and discrete trials approach. This is a highly
successful method for teaching language and functional
communication to children with speech delays. Many children
have come to us with little or no language skills, often
after months or years of traditional therapy, and have
left us virtually indistinguishable from their peers.
Language and Learning
Assessment
All children referred for language training receive a complete assessment of
their existing language skills. In addition, many other skills related to cooperation,
learning, and behavior are assessed. The results of this assessment form the
basis for the child's individualized language program.
The Language Program
Based upon the results of the comprehensive assessment, an individualized language-training
program is developed. The language program generally consists of specific
teaching protocols in 5-10 areas in which the child is delayed. Each teaching
protocol consists of specific teaching and data collection methods. All persons
involved in the language-training program are thoroughly trained on carrying
out each protocol correctly.
Data Based
Decision Making
Unlike many traditional language programs, we use empirical data to guide our
treatment decisions. Daily progress data are collected on each skill targeted
for intervention. We use these data to ensure we are continually making progress
on each goal.
Program
Monitoring and Modification
Each child's language program is reviewed frequently (usually weekly) to ensure
that optimal progress is being obtained. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst
reviews the data on each program being implemented and determines whether each
program should be continued, modified, placed on maintenance, discontinued,
or another program developed. The Behavior Analyst also periodically monitors
each therapist's performance as they implement the programs and provides corrective
feedback, if necessary. Such careful monitoring is central to our great success.
Training
in the Natural Environment
We believe that optimal progress requires teaching to occur as part of the
child's natural day-to-day activities, as well as in specific training sessions.
Therefore, we systematically implement training session in the child's natural
environment. We also encourage significant others (family, teachers, etc.)
to do likewise. To this end, we offer training to these persons in our specialized
teaching methods and in the child's specific learning programs.
Language Training Staff
Our language training programs are implemented by highly trained in-home (or
in-school) Verbal Behavior Therapists. They have received specialized training
and supervised experience in teaching language using the Applied Behavior
Analysis (Verbal Behavior/Discrete Trials Training) approach. All programs
are developed and supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts who have
a specialization in teaching language to children with speech delays. These
individuals have a masters or doctoral degree in Applied Behavior Analysis
and have received advanced training and experience in Verbal Behavior.
